They came in this morning to shave the one hair off of his chest (which he wasn't happy about as it takes a while to grow those) and prep him with the antibiotics they normally use for any surgery. The anesthesiologist then came in and introduced himself, and Dad requested that he not remember anything. :) Shouldn't be a problem was the reply.
**UPDATE 1**
Dad's nurse, Andrew, came out at around 9am to let us know that everything was preceding as planned and that they should have him on the bypass machine by 10am or so. A textbook procedure so far, the next update will be around 11am.
"Hurry up and get better Grandpa, we've got giggling to do!" -H4**UPDATE 2**
Another good visit from Andrew, as of 11am, the valve is being stitched in as we speak! So far so good!
**UPDATE 3**
Dad is out of surgery and on his way to intensive care! He'll be there for at least 24 hours so they can make sure everything is working like it should. We can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel now.
Only family is allowed in the ICU, but he should have a normal room by Saturday and can see visitors then. Stay tuned, and I'll update as we learn more.
**UPDATE 4**
Dad had his breathing tube removed around 8:15pm, and is now totally breathing on his own. The doctors plan on having him up and walking around tomorrow, and then eventually transferring him to a normal room sometime in the afternoon.
Things are look very good so far. Keep your fingers crossed as he continues to improve.
